How to use Champix stop-smoking medication

This allows enough time for the active ingredient in Champix tablets, varenicline, to build up in your body and take affect. The Champix stop-smoking starter pack contains 2 doses: the white Champix tablet (0.5 mg) and a light blue Champix tablet (1 mg). Start by taking a low dose to help your body get used to the medication then increase the dose up to the light blue tablet. Certain conditions such as kidney disease may mean you are prescribed a different dose by your doctor or healthcare provider.

Days one to three

Take one white Champix stop-smoking tablet once a day.

Days four to seven

Take one white Champix stop-smoking tablet in the morning and one in the evening.

Weeks two to four

Take one light blue Champix stop-smoking tablet in the morning and one in the evening. This will cover you for the first 4 weeks of treatment. Weeks five to twelve

Sticking to your stop-smoking medication dosage

It is important that you do not exceed the daily dosage of Champix stop-smoking tablets. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Simply continue using Champix stop-smoking treatment at the next scheduled time the following day.
