What is Crestor?
Crestor tablets have the active ingredient rosuvastatin calcium, which is a type of medicine referred to as a ‘statin’. It works by reducing the production of cholesterol by the liver.
Much of the cholesterol in our bloodstream is made within our body, by the liver. Crestor works by blocking an enzyme in the liver. It reduces the amount of LDL (bad) cholesterol made by your liver and increases the HDL (good) cholesterol. Along with a healthy diet, Crestor can even slow down the progression of atherosclerosis , this is the build up of plaque in the arteries over the course of time.
By reducing cholesterol production, Crestor reduces the amount of cholesterol that ends up in the blood. Clinically proven Crestor can lower LDL cholesterol by up to a huge 52%. It can also increase the amount of HDL cholesterol in the blood by up to 14%. To get the most out of a cholesterol medication, you should follow a diet that is low in saturated fats and cholesterol and make sure that you are getting physical activity.
Statins have a very important role in the prevention of coronary heart disease. They reduce the risk of too much of the wrong type of cholesterol being deposited in the major blood vessels of the heart (atherosclerosis). Any blockage in the blood vessels restricts the amount of blood and therefore oxygen being carried to the heart. This can cause chest pain and in severe cases can even produce a heart attack.
