While premature ejaculation or early ejaculation is embarrassing, delayed ejaculation can be just as awkward to come to terms with, says Dr. Madeleine M. Castellanos, sex therapist and assistant professor of psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York.
In an exclusive interview with Foxnews.com, Dr. Castellanos attributes addiction to Internet pornography as one of the main reasons behind delayed ejaculation (DE). When it takes longer than usual to reach orgasm, both partners can feel exhausted and frustrated, she observes, adding that easy access to porn online is making real-life sex less stimulating for many men, leading to an increasing number of DE cases worldwide.
Noting that delayed ejaculation is not a genetic problem, Dr. Castellanos pinpoints a number of factors that might potentially contribute to the problem. It can occur as a side effect of a few medicines, antidepressants in particular. Alcohol addiction and psychological issues can also cause delayed ejaculation. Men who cannot connect emotionally with their partners are most likely to suffer from this sexual health issue, the expert says.
Ejaculation problems can put relationships on the line and it is important to take premature or delayed ejaculation seriously. A man should restrict himself from watching pornography when he frequently encounters sexual problems such as DE, suggests the eminent sex therapist, recommending that he should reassure his partner that she is not at fault and that he is just as eager to find a solution as she is.
