According to renowned psychiatrist and neurologist Thanos Askitis, one-third of Greek men experience premature ejaculation as a result of their inability to get used to the altered relationship equation.
In a report published in Cyprus Mail, it is said that women are playing the role of the aggressor while men are found to have undertaken a more submissive domestic role. Dr Askitis says such a shift in gender roles has stemmed from prevalent social expectations that men should be masculine enough to fulfill the sexual urges of women.
While the increased levels of expectation build pressure on men, it does not necessarily take the 'femme fatale' quotient away from women, Dr Askitis observes, expressing concern that the consequences can be hugely damaging to men’s personal, professional, and social lives.
Speaking on the rise of premature ejaculation rates in men, the founder member of the Greece- and Cyprus-based Institute of Mental and Sexual Health explains that half of the men facing ejaculation problems or erectile dysfunction don’t even know they have a medical solution. Many of them also feel awkward to talk to a doctor for possible treatments, he notes, disclosing that many women visit his clinic to talk about the sexual problems of their partners.
Employee of IMSH Dr Marina Moskha says men who are lucky to have partners who are less aggressive and more sensitive to their ejaculation problems or erection issues stand a better chance of recovery – both physically and psychologically. On the other hand, women who feel 'rejected and inadequate' after coming to know that their men suffer from premature ejaculation are not likely to be of much help to their partners, Cyprus Mail quotes Dr Moskha as saying.
