Men who spend too much time pleasuring themselves sexually may face problems when having sex with a partner, warns Cosmopolitan, one of the leading women’s magazines.
The magazine says sex can be far from satisfactory for both partners if the man is compulsively given to masturbation, indicating that a problem like premature ejaculation can sneak in if self-pleasuring becomes a habit.
In an interview to the mag, sex therapist Ian Kerner says mostly two factors push men to overindulge in masturbation. According to Ian, being jobless and leading an uncertain life can be boring and unproductive, causing men to release their tension by masturbating. Easy access to pornography is another factor that could turn some men to compulsive masturbators, says the expert.
In an earlier story 121doc already touched upon the adverse impact of porn on men’s sexual health. Psychology Today has suggested that being hooked to porn can lead to problems such as erectile dysfunction and loss of sexual desire.
Elaborating on why overindulging in masturbation can spell trouble for male sexual health, Ian Kerner says a man can have more friction with his hands than with vagina, meaning that in times of actual sex, he may simply not get the same pleasure he is used to getting through self-pleasure techniques.
Another school of thought is too much solo sex can trigger premature ejaculation. The theory is that when a man masturbates, he usually does it hastily – either for experiencing the pleasure of orgasm as soon as possible or out of fear that he might get caught in the act. This might lead to ejaculation problems, premature ejaculation in particular.
For those who are still finding it difficult to resist the temptation, it may be a good idea to seek help of a counselor, advises sexual expert Annette Demby.
