Are mature women better equipped to reach sexual heights?

mature women are sexually happy

Mature women are found to enjoy sex more than their younger counterparts, according to experts from the Veterans Affairs San Diego and the University of California.

The study involved 921 middle-aged Californian women who filled in a medical questionnaire, providing details of their recent sexual activities and their experience with arousal, lubrication, and orgasm.

Quite surprisingly, more than 43% of those surveyed said they had sexual activities in the previous 4 weeks leading to the study. Out of this sexually active group, about 64.5% admitted that they were satisfied with their libido while 67.1% women said they regularly reached orgasm whilst indulging in sexual acts, with or without a partner.

As found mostly in menopausal women, the frequency of sex as well as the overall experience of it ebbs away with age. But the US study showed that women in their early 50s and 80s, despite being low in testosterone, could be more likely to have frequent orgasms compared to younger women. This only implies that sexual satisfaction might not come only from how strong your libido is, but from what kind of emotional attachment you share with your partner, according to the study authors.

The researchers also took note that the use of hormone replacement therapy was not linked with arousal, lubrication, and sexual climax. The findings revealed that nearly 50% of the sexually inactive women aged 70 on average reported moderate or complete physical and emotional fulfilment.
