Scientists have been running a number of tests in the US, to determine whether a new spray on anaesthetic would work to successfully alleviate the symptoms that are associated with premature ejaculation.

It was proven to work 5 times better than any of the treatments on the market to date. With premature ejaculation effecting 1 in 3 males aged 18–59 in the US alone, this fresh solution may prove to be beneficial.

However, the treatment does come with its drawbacks, given that the male is required to use a condom in order to prevent his partner’s genitals from becoming numb. It also needs 45 minutes to work, perhaps making it somewhat impractical.

The spray, called PSD502 or Tempe, was developed by Plethora Solutions of London, along with Sciela Pharma Inc of Atlanta in the US. It consists of a number of ingredients proven to help with premature ejaculation. The trial was headed by Dr. Michael G. Wyllie from Plethora, and involved up to 256 patients at 38 separate medical facilities. The research took place in the US, Canada and Poland and their average time taken during intercourse were less than 36 seconds. Two thirds were given the medication whilst the remainder were given a placebo.

Speaking at a meeting for the Sexual Medicine Society in San Diego, Wyllie highlighted the fact that men who had taken the drug, lasted 2 minutes longer.
