Premature ejaculation is a condition that many sufferers refuse to discuss. They are often too embarrassed to seek the advice of professionals, close friends and even their partners.
Whilst there is still a large amount of stigma attached to premature ejaculation here in the UK, Asia is said to be experiencing large scale figures with over a third of the male population suffering with the condition.
In response, the ‘Asia Pacific Premature Ejaculation Prevalence and Attitude Study’ (AP PEPA) was launched, in a bid to create more awareness and to provide people with better education concerning premature ejaculation.
The condition is thought to affect around 30% of men. Despite these figures, many claim to have never sought any proper advice from a professional and surprisingly, the larger majority claim they are unable to discuss such issues with their partner. The (AP PEPA) study took into account around 5,000 men, all of whom were in the 18-65 brackets. 10 countries were involved in the study.
Worrying figures
Even though so many men suffer with premature ejaculation, embarrassment and pride can often pose a barrier for sufferers, leaving many feeling alone which can often increase the level of anguish.
False conceptions
Speaking at a press conference, the head of the study, Dr Lee, alongside the general secretary of the Malaysian Urological Association, warned of a stark lack of education concerning PE whilst appealing for better education concerning a condition that can not only hinder relationships but can also affect the sufferer mentally, affecting their overall quality of life.
New hope for the future
One particular treatment which is set to reach the UK shortly is Priligy, a proven treatment that is set to help thousands of men help to deal with PE.
