According to manufacturers, the new treatment for premature ejaculation, Priligy (dapoxetine) has been approved for use in New Zealand.
It is intended for males aged 18-64 who are suffering with premature ejaculation, a condition that is thought to affect up to 30% of the male population worldwide.
Despite its prevalence, PE is a condition which sufferers are often apprehensive if not completely unwilling to discuss.
Studies show that a massive proportion of men fail to get an official diagnosis due to a sense of embarrassment and the stigma attached to the condition.
However, despite the growing problem, experts are now predicting that Priligy is set to help a massive 25,000 men in New Zealand alone. Given the psychological effects that premature ejaculation can have on a sufferer, people are now beginning to see Priligy as a cutting edge way in which to help alleviate the symptoms of PE.
The treatment
Prior to its release, doctors had been known to prescribe antidepressants such as SSRIs to patients who were displaying the symptoms of premature ejaculation. Priligy works in the same way and helps to delay the point of climax.
Despite the similarities however, there are a number of major differences between regular anti depressants and Priligy because the latter is absorbed into the body far quicker, and is in turn excreted quicker.Symptoms reside faster as a result.
Anybody suffering with the symptoms associated with PE is advised to seek professional advice before considering any form of treatment. Communication is often more effective and the fact that such a large proportion of the male population suffer with the condition is testament to the fact you are not alone.
