Anybody that has ever considered a holiday in the sun to be about sex sea and sand have certainly got at least one of these right because experts have been able to prove that sunbathing can increase testosterone levels in men, and in turn, boost sex drives.
Scientists believe that this is due to the fact that testosterone levels rise with doses of Vitamin D. According to experts, men who have around 30 nanograms of Vitamin D per millilitre of blood will have higher levels of the sex hormone. This has also been proven by researchers at the Medical University in Gratz, Austria.
Others also believe that levels of the vitamin increase, when somebody sunbathes for at least an hour. The same is also said for those who eat oily fish or meat. On average, male testosterone levels are often affected by their intake of Vitamin D. The seasons are thought to affect the process also, given that testosterone levels are often lower in winter, due to the lack of sunlight.
Essentially, men who maintain healthy levels of vitamin D will have greater levels of testosterone and a higher sex drive. The Austrian study also found that just an hour of sunshine can increase testosterone levels by 69%.
The answer to ED?
Erectile dysfunction affects as many as 40% of the male population. One common symptom of the condition is a low sex drive. Although Vitamin D would not be a sufficient cure for broader symptoms of ED, it could help with sexual performance, through increased libidos.
Experts may also be now be able to attribute low sex drives, to Vitamin deficiencies in the future.
