TV gardener David Domoney uses Viagra to give flowers a bloom and stop them from drooping for a week longer, reveals the Huffington Post.
The horticultural expert claims that he fed his plants with water and 1 mg of crushed impotence drug Viagra to make them stay upright for a week longer, learns the news website.
The reason for this effect of the erectile dysfunction drug is nitric oxide contained in the drug, which provides a boost to plants in a same way as it works for humans, the gardening expert told the news portal.
“You only need a tiny amount of Viagra to stiffen things up nicely” the American news website quotes David Domoney as saying. The Huffington Post learns that researchers are working on gardeners' version of Viagra for plants and it will soon be ready to hit the market.
The host of Garden ER on Channel 5 explained that the genetics of plants is similar to that of humans in many ways, therefore as the chemicals in the libido-enhancing drug relaxes the muscles in a man's penis, similarly it makes cut flower stand on end for longer.
The Huffington Post learns that initially Australian scientists discovered that Viagra can double the lives of cut flowers and their findings were published in the British Medical Journal.
According to David Domoney, soluble aspirin can also help prevent wilting in flowers, prolonging their life. The gardening expert also claims that a shot of vodka stops the water in a vase going green.
